The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a veteran photojournalist, Umar Usman, in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident on Tuesday in Kaduna, saying security agencies have begun efforts to rescue the victim.
“We are trying our best to rescue him unhurt,” Hassan said.
He disclosed that Usman was abducted at about 9:00 p.m. on Monday by suspected bandits in Danhonu II community, Millennium City, an incident that has heightened fear among residents of the area.
Usman, a retired staff member of Africa Independent Television, Kaduna Station, and a former employee of the Nigerian Television Authority in Kaduna, was reportedly taken from his residence during the attack.
Hassan added that the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, had ordered the immediate deployment of operatives to track the abductors and ensure the journalist’s safe release.
He appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist ongoing rescue operations.
