The Lagos State Police Command has revealed the prime suspect in the kidnap and murder of a student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Christiana Idowu.
The Lagos Police PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed this on Thursday via his personal X.com page.
The suspect identified as Adeleye Ayomide is a 200 level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University.
Hundeyin wrote, “23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to @LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade @HQNigerianArmy. The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. Investigation is ongoing.”
Ayomide, was arrested on August 3rd 2024 after investigations by intelligence operatives tracked his phone.
He had allegedly sent photos of her in captivity to her parents and demanded a ransom of N1,500,000.
Christiannah’s family was able to raise N350,000, which they transferred to a betting account as instructed by the abductors.
However, after complying with further demands, including sending their bank statement on August 23, the abductors ceased communication.
Futher investigation revealed that there was a connection between Christiannah and the suspect, who allegedly used the ransom money to withdraw funds into his Wema Bank account.
WUZUPNIGERIA had earlier reported that futher scrutiny uncovered a close relationship between Christiannah and the suspect, shown by their interactions on social media.
This relationship, combined with the financial transactions, led authorities to track the suspect’s cell phone, which directed them to his parent’s house in Ikorodu.
There are reports that two other women close to the suspect, including his ex-girlfriend and biological sister, died under similar circumstances in 2018 and 2020, respectively.
