The Police in Ebonyi have confirmed the arrest of father, one Fidelis Nwangele, who defiled his four-year-old daughter in Ebonyi State.

The suspect, Mr Nwangele, 29-year-old, who hails from Ngbo-Agba area of Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi, allegedly committed the act in June 2019.

The suspect was said to have denied commission of the offence, but his wife had told the police that he defiled their daughter.

It was gathered that little or nothing was known about the incident since 2019, until the little girl started urinating uncontrollably. Her incessant urination, it was gathered, led her mother to investigate and discover she was sexually abused by her father, who allegedly had forceful carnal knowledge of her.

Nwangele was arrested by the police on Thursday and the little girl, it was further learnt was currently suffering from Vesco Virginia Fistula (VVF), owing to alleged forceful penetration of her private part.

The incident led to a serious quarrel between the suspect and his wife, who later reported the matter to the police.

The suspect, however, denied ever having canal knowledge of his daughter before the Police. But his wife, Uzoamaka and the little girl told the police that he allegedly committed the act.

The little girl had been referred to National Obstetric Fistula Centre, Abakaliki, for medical examination and possible repair.

Confirming the incident and the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Loveth Odah, added that the victim’s pant that was torn during the act had also been recovered in the course of investigation.

Odah, further explained that Police Juvenile Welfare Centre, from Ekumenyi Police Division where the incident took place, initiated a preliminary investigation on the matter and recovered the pant.

She said the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further discreet investigation.

Police JWC initiated preliminary investigation on the matter and recovered the victim’s stained pant.

“The suspect has been arrested and investigation is ongoing. He will be arraigned in the court after thorough investigation,” she said.
