The Lagos State Police Command confirmed on Friday that no case of theft was established against Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin-Lawal, who had been accused of stealing gold at the Oba Akintoye Market in Lagos Island.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin provided the update, clarifying that the accusations against the actress stemmed from a mistake involving a wrong bank account number.

“There was no case of stealing to begin with,” Hundeyin stated, explaining that the incident was the result of a mistaken account number provided by the seller.

Out of the 10 digits required, one was incorrect, and Anjorin-Lawal unknowingly transferred the payment to the wrong account.

Once the mistake was realized, the actress was wrongfully accused of theft by traders in the market, leading to a viral video showing her being assaulted.

Despite this, Anjorin-Lawal transferred the amount a second time to the correct account in an effort to avoid further trouble, even though the error was not hers.

Hundeyin noted that during the police investigation, the accusers admitted their error, confirming that Anjorin-Lawal had made the payment as instructed and that she was not guilty of theft.

“She transferred the money as required and had proof of the transaction,” he said.

While Anjorin-Lawal initially pursued legal action for the assault, she later withdrew the case for personal reasons, leading to the arrest and court release of those involved.

The incident gained widespread attention after the viral video, but police investigations have now confirmed that the accusations against Anjorin-Lawal were unfounded.
