The Ondo State Police Command has begun a manhunt for the gunmen who reportedly abducted a man, Maliki Onose, and his son, Jethro, along the Benin -Owo Road in the Ose Local Government Area of the state on Monday.

The PUNCH reported that although the details of the incident were sketchy, it was gathered that the victims were traveling along the road when the gunmen waylaid them and dragged them into the bush.

The kidnapped son is said to be a student of the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Imeri, in the council area.

A source from the area who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to do so said, “The man (Maliki ) was traveling to Imeri to drop his son who was to resume at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Imeri after the three-week Easter holiday when the bandits waylaid them and whisked them away to an unknown destination.”

In her reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the incident, said efforts were ongoing to rescue the victims unhurt.

The PPRO said, “We are currently working with the Nigerian Navy to ensure that the victims are rescued from the den of the kidnappers and get the perpetrators arrested.”
