The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a local official of the All Progressives Congress, Abdulmumini Garba, over the death of a 45-year-old woman, Falmata Abubakar, in Gashua, Bade Local Government Area.

Falmata, a food vendor, was found dead on Friday, October 17, near the Federal University Gashua.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said Garba, 60, who is the APC Secretary in Karasuwa Local Government Area, was arrested after police investigations linked him to the incident.

He said, “Following diligent investigation and sustained intelligence efforts, police operatives from Bade Division arrested one Abdulmumini Garba, 60 years old, of Gasma, Karasuwa Local Government Area, who serves as the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Karasuwa and also the Secretary of the Vegetables Market in Gashua, in connection with the death of late Falmata Abubakar.”

Abdulkarim explained that the suspect admitted to having conveyed the deceased in his vehicle on the day of the incident, during which they had a disagreement over her request for financial assistance to support her business.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the argument led to a fight inside his vehicle, during which she died. Realising she had died, he said he dumped the body in a bush near the university around 10 p.m.,” the statement added.

The police spokesman described the arrest as another success in the command’s ongoing efforts to ensure justice and maintain public safety.

The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, commended the Bade Divisional Police Officer and his team for their professionalism and quick response.

He assured that the case would be thoroughly investigated and charged to court once completed.

“The Command appreciates the continued cooperation of residents and urges the public to keep providing credible information that will assist in curbing crime and ensuring peace across Yobe State,” Ado said.
