The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26 year old armed robbery suspect, Ugochukwu Uzor, during a major operation in Iyiowa Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Police said Uzor was captured on Monday by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, after he sustained serious injuries while trying to escape.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that officers recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and 11 live rounds of ammunition from the suspect.

According to Ikenga, Uzor confessed during interrogation that he leads several criminal gangs operating in Anambra and neighbouring states.

He said, “Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being the leader of several criminal gangs operating across Anambra and neighbouring states.”

Ikenga added that the suspect also admitted to taking part in the abduction and killing of Hon. Azuka Justice, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, who was murdered on December 24, 2024.

He said, “He also revealed his involvement in the abduction and subsequent murder of Hon. Azuka Justice on December 24, 2024.”

Police described Uzor as a hardened criminal, noting that he had a large tattoo on his body with the words “No Forgiveness” and “No Mercy.”

Ikenga said the arrest marks a major breakthrough in the state’s fight against violent crime.

He said, “This arrest is a significant development and will help further investigations to break down criminal syndicates operating in the state.”

The Command urged residents to remain alert and support ongoing security efforts.
