The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over a Bauchi robbery in which hoodlums allegedly tied up a couple. They also stole valuables worth about ₦4m in Gadau community.

According to The Punch, the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Abubakar said the suspects were arrested after detectives launched an intelligence-led investigation into the robbery. This robbery occurred on June 8 at about 3:00 a.m.

A 28-year-old resident of Gadau Town reported the incident to the Gadau Divisional Police Headquarters on July 3. He told police that five armed hoodlums broke into his residence.

“On 3rd July, 2026, a 28-year-old complainant, male, resident of Gadau Town, reported at Gadau Division that on 8th June, 2026, at about 0300hrs, five unknown hoodlums armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons broke into his residence,” the statement read.

The police said the attackers forced open the couple’s bedroom door and threatened them with machetes. They then tied them up before stealing several items from the house.

“According to the complainant, the hoodlums forced open his bedroom door, intimidated him and his wife with machetes, tied them up, and carted away valuables,” the statement added.

The stolen items included one Jincheng motorcycle, five Android phones and 10 sets of wrappers. Furthermore, they took ₦1m cash, one cap and three wristwatches, all valued at about ₦4m.

Abubakar said police operatives visited the scene after receiving the report and began tracking those involved in the Bauchi robbery.

“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives visited the scene and commenced an intelligence-led investigation. As a result of diligent follow-up, two suspects were subsequently arrested,” he said.

He identified the suspects as 20-year-old Salisu Umar of Gadau and 20-year-old Sadiq Shehu of Azare in Katagum Local Government Area.

The police spokesperson said the complainant’s wife identified one of the suspects during an identification parade.

“During an identification parade conducted, the complainant’s wife recognised and pointed out Sadiq Shehu as one of the persons who entered her room and forced her to open the main gate for the other accomplices,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the Divisional Police Officer and his team for the arrest. He then ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

He also assured residents that police operatives would continue efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects and prosecute everyone found culpable.

The command urged members of the public to stay vigilant. In addition, the public should share credible information that could help security agencies tackle criminal activities across Bauchi State.

Police said the investigation into the Bauchi robbery remains ongoing.
