The Katsina State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered tramadol tablets worth ₦3.5 million.

The arrest is part of the command’s efforts to fight drug abuse and illegal drug trade in the state.

One of the suspects, 27-year-old Murtala Salisu from Bare-bari village in Safana Local Government Area, was arrested on March 20, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m.

He was caught with 2,084 sachets of suspected tramadol tablets.

Police spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, said in a statement on Thursday that Salisu confessed to getting the drugs from someone in Nasarawa State.

He also named another man, Tanimu Abubakar from Jibia Local Government Area, as his partner in the crime.

Both suspects have confessed to the crime, and investigation is still ongoing.

Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, promised that the command will continue to fight drug trafficking and protect the people of Katsina State.

“The command is fully committed to fighting substance abuse, drug trafficking, and all other related crimes,” he said.

He also called on residents to support the police by giving helpful and timely information.

In another development, the Katsina State Government has started work on a major energy project in partnership with Genesis Energy Group.

The $500 million project, launched after last month’s agreement in London, is expected to reduce dependence on diesel generators and bring stable electricity to the state.

According to a statement from Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the energy plan is one of the largest private sector-led renewable energy investments in Northern Nigeria.
