The Imo State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra during a raid on a hideout in Okigwe Local Government Area.
The raid took place in the early hours of Thursday, April 17, 2025, on Cameron Street, Ubahu. According to the police, the operation was carried out by tactical teams with support from local vigilantes after receiving reliable information.
During the raid, there was a gun battle. Two suspects escaped into nearby bushes, but three others were arrested.
The suspects were identified as Onyekaba Ikenna Innocent, 21; Ugwu Ikenna, 31; and Ofor Kasarachi, 37.
The police said the operation is part of continued efforts to fight crime and ensure safety in Imo State.
Spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, shared the update while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Owerri on Friday.
He said the police recovered several weapons and items linked to terror activities. These include:
– One AK-47 rifle
– Two pump-action shotguns
– Eighteen live cartridges
– Several mobile phones and laptops
– ₦10.3 million in cash
Okoye said the money is believed to have been collected from IPOB members to fund terrorist activities.
“The recovered cash, based on preliminary investigations, is believed to have been contributed by IPOB members to finance acts of terrorism,” he said.
He also said the Imo State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, is serious about fighting crime and protecting lives.
“With the Easter season near, we have increased patrols, surveillance, and checkpoints across the state,” Okoye added. “We are working with other security agencies to make sure residents enjoy a peaceful holiday.”
