The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered dangerous weapons during separate operations across the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, said in a statement on Monday that the arrests were made last Friday around 8 pm following credible intelligence.
According to her, two of the suspects were caught at a native doctor’s house in Ikot Ineme Village while receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments. The third suspect was later arrested during the investigation.
The suspects were identified as Akan Udo, 40, from Ikot Edem Udo Village; Namso Monday, 20, from Ikot Umo Essien Odoro Ikot Village; and Mbata Udo, 40, from Ikot Ukpong Offiong Village.
A search of their hideout led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, one locally made revolver, 16 machetes, six mobile phones, two generators, a battle axe, pliers, and other items believed to have been used for criminal activities.
John added that the native doctor who allegedly helped the gang is still on the run, while efforts are ongoing to arrest him.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, commended the officers for their efforts and restated the command’s commitment to ensuring safety across the state.
She also said the suspects would be charged in court after investigations.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command recently arrested another suspected robber, Stanley Chibuike, who tried to hide a pistol inside a loaf of bread during a stop-and-search operation in Asaba.
