Three suspected members of a robbery and kidnap gang have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command.

The police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, told journalists on Monday in Warri that the suspects were picked up on Saturday by the CP-SAT team during operations in Ughelli and Osubi, in Okpe Local Government Area.

He said the suspects were linked to several cases of kidnapping and armed robbery across Warri, Ughelli, Sapele, Agbarho and nearby towns.

“One of the suspects was arrested first. During investigation, he confessed to being part of a kidnapping and robbery group,” Edafe said.

He added that the suspect later led police to the hideouts in Ughelli and Osubi, where two more suspects were arrested.

According to Edafe, one of them owned the PoS machine used in collecting ransom from kidnap victims.

The police recovered a locally-made gun and eight live cartridges during the raid.

Preliminary findings showed that the group was behind the kidnapping of a pharmacist in Ughelli on June 19. The police also linked them to an attempted kidnapping on April 28 at Iyede community, Isoko North, where they stole a Toyota Corolla after the failed operation.

The suspects are currently in custody and investigations are still ongoing.
