Police arrest three kidnapping suspects in Imo

The Nigeria Police Force, Imo State command Owerri, says it has arrested one Wisdom Anyanwu, Odinaka Odu, and Jephthah Chukwuma for allegedly kidnapping Oduokika Chinonso and late Uchechukwu Okorji.

The first victims hail from Amaifeke in Orlu Local government area while the deceased second victim hailed also from the same Orlu L.G.A of the state.

Briefing journalists in Owerri on Wednesday the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bolaji Fafowora said that on January 4, 2020, one Oduokike Chinonso was kidnapped at Obosima junction at Owerri- Port Harcourt road by unknown gunmen.

He further said that the following day the late Uchechukwu Okoroji 24 (m) was kidnapped at Amaifeke in Orlu council area.

He said, “On receipt of the reports, operatives of Anti Kidnapping squad swung into action and arrested the above-named suspects, after a gun duel with the operatives. They have confessed to the crime and took the operatives to a bush at Adapalm Estate where they murdered and buried one of their victims by name Uchechukwu Okoroji after collecting N1m”.

He said that the victims’ decomposing corpse was exhumed and taken to the General Hospital Umuguma Owerri for autopsy.
The CP, however, said that the state command of the Police would take the fight against crime and criminality to the den and hideout of kidnappers and armed robbers.

He said that investigation in the kidnapping case had reached an advanced stage and that the suspects would soon be charged to court for prosecution accordingly.

He thanked Imo citizens for providing useful crime information to the police operatives, assuring them that the police would continue to get rid of the state of crime and criminality.

Reacting in the crime, the first suspect, Wisdom Anyanwu (22) who hails from Amaorie Obibiezena in Owerri North council area of the state said that they collected the money to enrich themselves.
The second suspect, Jephthan Chukwuma (20) of Umuokoehi Asia in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of the state blamed on it on devil adding that they were tempted by the devil.
