The Abia State Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome beheading of an elderly couple in Itumbuzo, Bende Local Government Area.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, the victims, 78-year-old Mr. Jacob Udo and his 73-year-old wife, Mrs. Dorcas Jacob, were found dead in a pool of blood in their compound on October 2, 2024.
“On the 2/10/2024, we received a report at Bende Divisional Headquarters that same date at about 08:30 AM, Mr. Jacob Udo and Mrs. Dorcas Jacob, both of Ndiwo Itumbuzo, Bende LGA, were found lying lifeless in a pool of blood in their compound,” Chinaka said.
The police revealed that several of the couple’s belongings had been stolen during the attack. Upon receiving the report, officers visited the crime scene and transported the bodies to the mortuary for autopsy.
“Three suspects were arrested in connection with the heinous crime and are currently under interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Umuahia,” Chinaka added.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, expressed his concern over the tragic incident, calling for calm among residents. He assured the public that the investigation would uncover the truth and ensure justice is served.
