Police arrest suspected killer of ex-Ekiti varsity deputy VC

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested Omowaye Ayodele, also known as Baba Ogbon, in connection with the death of Professor Oluwafemi Olaofe, the former deputy vice chancellor of Ekiti State University.

According to the police’s public relations officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, Ayodele is also a suspect in the recent robbery and murder of a businesswoman.

The incident occurred at Fabian Junction, near the Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus in Ado-Ekiti.

Abutu explained, “On July 6, 2024, at about 6:30 AM, we received a distress call that a woman, later identified as Aina Adeyemi, was robbed and shot dead by an unknown gunman riding an unregistered Boxer Bajaj Motorcycle at Fabian Junction.”

The police quickly responded and found Adeyemi in a pool of her blood. She was rushed to the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital but was confirmed dead.

The Rapid Response Squad investigated and arrested Omowaye Ayodele, also known as Baba Ogbon. During questioning, Ayodele admitted to being involved in the crime and named his accomplices as Ojo Temidayo, known as Yellow, and Busarí Lookman, known as Abbey.

Ayodele said, “Busarí Lookman A.K.A Abbey was the one who shot and robbed the victim. I was with Ojo Temidayo A.K.A Yellow, monitoring the scene and describing the victim to Abbey.”

Further investigation led to the arrest of Busarí Lookman, who confessed, “I was the one who shot the victim and took her money, which was ₦155,000. I gave ₦50,000 of it to Omowaye Ayodele A.K.A Baba Ogbon.”

Ayodele also revealed that he is part of a kidnapping gang responsible for the abduction of Professor Olaofe. He said, “I was arrested for kidnapping in 2015 and released on May 24, 2024. We have also robbed various Point of Sale (POS) operators in Ado-Ekiti.”

Ojo Temidayo, also known as Yellow, admitted to selling Indian hemp and engaging in fraud.

The police are continuing their investigation and are working to apprehend another gang member who is currently on the run with their weapons.

The suspects will be arraigned in court once the investigation is complete.
