Operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Delta State Police Command, have arrested a 28-year-old suspected female gunrunner, Happiness Clifford, in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state .
The police also recovered 10 live cartridges concealed in a bucket from the suspect .
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement sent to newsmen in Warri on Monday .
According to the police spokesperson, the arrest followed credible intelligence received by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit based in Ubulu-Uku .
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Ubulu-Uku, arrested one Happiness Clifford, female, aged 28 years, in connection with suspected gun-running activities in Agbor, Ika South LGA,” Edafe said .
“A search of the suspected hideout led to the recovery of 10 live cartridges concealed in a bucket,” he added .
During preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly identified her husband, one Clifford Okoro, as a major supplier of the ammunition .
“Investigation is ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend him,” Edafe stated .
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the police to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition in Delta State, which has been linked to rising cases of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the region .
