Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a key suspect linked to the brutal murder and beheading of Mrs. Obianuju Akubi, a 69-year-old woman from Umuleri in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The arrest was made on October 4, 2025, by officers attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, who stormed Aguleri following actionable intelligence.
The suspect, identified as Obadigbo Emmanuel Anumudu, had reportedly been on the run since July 22, 2024, the day of the incident.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Awka, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest and provided further details on the investigation.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and further mentioned members of his gang who participated in the murder and beheading,” Ikenga said.
He also revealed that the suspect disclosed the location of the victim’s head, which was taken away from the scene after the killing.
The police spokesperson added that a manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects connected to the crime, assuring the public that justice will be pursued diligently.
“Further developments will be communicated in due course,” Ikenga added.
