The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the theft of gold ornaments valued at over ₦109.5 million in Ka’oje, Bagudo Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Wednesday, following a complaint filed on September 4, 2025, at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Birnin Kebbi.

According to Abubakar, investigations revealed that between 2024 and 2025, unidentified individuals broke into the residence of one Hajiya Rabi in Ka’oje and stole five gold necklaces, nine bangles, and four rings — all weighing a total of 782.7 grams.

The stolen items reportedly belonged to her daughter, Hajiya Amina Hassan Bello, and other family members.

Detectives arrested Ibrahim Abubakar, an officer with the Nigerian Correctional Service, who reportedly confessed to the theft.

He is alleged to have sold the stolen jewelry to four buyers: Sa’adu Ibrahim Darhami and Hamza Ahmad, both of Sokoto State; Nasiru Sani of Birnin Kebbi; and Tasi’u Umar of Zauro, Birnin Kebbi.

Police said Ibrahim Usman Oroji assisted in selling part of the loot and received ₦2.5 million as his share.

Another accomplice, Mustapha Hassan, allegedly helped conceal the proceeds by coordinating the purchase of two plots of land in Birnin Kebbi metropolis.

“Exhibits so far recovered include two golden bangles, a Haojue motorcycle, an iPhone 16, a Samsung Galaxy Ultra, and a Samsung Flip phone,” Abubakar stated.

The police added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional accomplices and recover more stolen items.
