The Enugu State Police Command has recovered a gun and ammunition from armed robbery suspects who fled the scene of a robbery in the metropolis.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said officers from the Awkunanaw Police Division recovered the firearm on May 29.

According to Ndukwe, the police responded to a distress call about a robbery in a compound in Awkunanaw, Enugu, at 10:00 p.m. and successfully foiled the attack.

“The police team recovered a locally fabricated double-barrel gun with two live cartridges dropped by one of the fleeing robbers,” Ndukwe stated.

Additionally, on May 30 at 7:30 p.m., detectives from the Awkunanaw Police Division arrested three suspects allegedly involved in the theft of iron rails.

“Their arrests led to the recovery of yet-to-be quantified pieces of iron rails vandalised at the pedestrian crossing bridge at Holy Ghost/Ogbete Market, Enugu,” Ndukwe added.

He mentioned that a discreet investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang, and that the suspects will be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.

Ndukwe quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, expressing appreciation to the residents of the state.

“The information provided by residents about the activities of criminals made these arrests possible,” Uzuegbu said.

He urged residents to continue supporting the police by promptly reporting suspected criminals and their activities to the police and other security agencies.
