A man identified as Fatai Quadri has been arrested by police operatives in Ijebu Ode after he was caught on video assaulting his wife, Rukayat, over a marital dispute linked to alleged infidelity.
The incident happened at their home in Illese-Ijebu, where Quadri was seen in the viral footage repeatedly punching and threatening his wife. Reports said the violence followed claims that he had transferred ownership of a 10-room en-suite apartment, which he built with Rukayat, to another woman.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the arrest on Saturday. The spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, said the victim is receiving treatment while the suspect remains in custody. “The suspect will be charged to court after investigations are concluded,” she stated.
Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned the act and stressed that domestic violence would not be tolerated in the state. He warned that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
“Silence only empowers perpetrators, but timely reporting ensures protection and justice,” Ogunlowo advised, urging victims of abuse to quickly seek police intervention.
The disturbing video of the attack has sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for strict punishment to deter future cases of domestic violence.
