Police in Oyo State have arrested two suspects believed to be members of a notorious one-chance robbery gang that has been troubling residents in Ibadan.

The arrest followed a viral video that exposed the gang’s operations in the city. The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the state Commissioner of Police had directed the tactical units to track down the gang after the video went viral. Acting on intelligence, officers from the Command Monitoring Unit traced the suspects to Old Ibadan/Oyo Road and arrested them around 3:30 pm on July 12.

The suspects were identified as Kolawole Moshood, 42, from Olomoyeye Muslim Area, Ibadan, and Opeyemi Kuburat, 45, from Beyerunka Area, Ibadan. A Nissan Almera vehicle with the registration number Lagos FST 779 DL, allegedly used for their operations, was recovered during the arrest.

Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the one-chance gang and admitted to deceiving and robbing several victims in Ibadan and nearby areas.

Police said three victims have already identified them and confirmed they were robbed by the suspects at different times.

Osifeso urged other victims to come forward to aid the investigation. He also assured the public that efforts were ongoing to arrest more members of the gang and recover any weapons in their possession.
