Police arrest notorious armed robber, seize riffles in Kano

The police in Kano State have arrested a well-known armed robber and recovered two AK-47 rifles, 47 rounds of live ammunition, and N4.9 million from him.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Hassan Iliya, was apprehended by the police after a report of a robbery in Yandadi Village, Kunchi local government area.

The victim had reported that armed robbers attacked his home and stole N15 million.

Police spokesman Abdullahi Kiyawa said, “A resident of Yandadi Village reported that armed robbers stormed his house, attacked him, and took N15 million.”

Following this report, Commissioner of Police Salman Garba directed a team of detectives to track down the robbers. Kiyawa explained, “The team was instructed to conduct intelligence-led patrols to arrest the culprits and recover their weapons.”

On the same day, the police arrested Hassan Iliya in Alhazawa Village, Musawa local government area of Katsina State, while he was trying to flee on a motorcycle. During a search, officers found a sack with two AK-47 rifles, 47 rounds of live ammunition, and cash amounting to N4.9 million.

“The team discovered the rifles and ammunition, as well as nearly five million naira in cash,” Kiyawa added.

Kiyawa stated that Commissioner Garba has ordered a thorough investigation into the case and urged the public to support the police. “The commissioner has ordered an investigation and is calling on the public to remain patriotic,” Kiyawa said.
