A 47-year-old native doctor, Okonji Chimeze, has been arrested by police operatives in Delta State after two automatic pump-action guns and a cutlass were found hidden inside the ceiling of his house.

The arrest was carried out by the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad of the Delta State Police Command. The police acted on a tip-off and raided Chimeze’s home in Ibuza on June 14, 2025, around 6:30 a.m.

The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, who confirmed the arrest on Tuesday in Asaba, said, “A search warrant was executed in the premises of the suspect during which two automatic pump-action guns and one cutlass were recovered hidden inside the ceiling of the suspect’s room.”

He said the suspect is now in custody, and investigations are ongoing to uncover how he got the weapons and what they were meant for.

In another development, the Eagle-Net Surveillance Team, while carrying out a routine stop-and-search operation along Otokutu Bridge in Ughelli North Local Government Area, intercepted a black Toyota Corolla car with registration number RSH 90 RC.

The vehicle was being driven by a 27-year-old man, Telvin Richmond, accompanied by 26-year-old Frank Obiorah. Both men live in the Opete by Otokutu area.

“A thorough search of the vehicle revealed a locally made cut-to-size gun, two yellow hand-bands with ‘neo black movement’ written on them, one battle axe and a wooden pistol,” Edafe said.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspects are members of the Aiye cult group. They admitted to buying the gun in 2024 for N87,000 from a person who is still on the run.

The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the third suspect and bring all involved to justice.
