The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects, including a native doctor, for alleged involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Saturday. He said the operation followed a rescued victim’s testimony, which helped security forces track the suspects.

“On November 22, 2024, around 6 p.m., near Abagana Girls Secondary School, joint security forces comprising the Police and Anambra Vigilantes uncovered a native doctor’s shrine in Uru, Abagana, and arrested two suspects,” Ikenga said.

The police also recovered a pump-action gun, the victim’s vehicle, ropes, a horsewhip, and other incriminating items during the operation. The suspects, identified as 30-year-old Ikechukwu Okafor and 38-year-old Nweze Chijindu, are both natives of Abagana. Two other suspects, Supuluchukwu Nweze and Sunday Nwakanze, remain at large.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was tricked to the location by a phone call allegedly made by Nwakanze. “The victim was abducted at gunpoint, robbed of valuables, and taken to a shrine where he was tied up and had his mouth sealed,” Ikenga added.

The arrested suspects confessed to the crime and are helping the police locate their accomplices.

Ikenga assured residents that the police are committed to maintaining safety and security in the state. “We will not relent in our efforts to ensure the safety of all residents in Anambra,” he stated.
