The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a woman named Hauwa Sani who was found with 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition hidden in a gallon of palm oil.
The arrest took place in Keffi, a town in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
According to the police on Saturday, Hauwa Sani, who is from Doro village in Katsina State, was traveling with a two-year-old child when she was intercepted by police officers.
The officers acted on credible information and arrested her as she was on her way back to Katsina.
“On 23/8/2024 at about 1710hrs, based on credible information, police operatives attached to Keffi Division intercepted and arrested one Hauwa Sani ‘F’ alongside a 2-year-old child of Doro village, Katsina State,” said DSP Rahman Nansel, the Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Police Command, in a statement.
During the arrest, the police discovered the ammunition hidden inside a gallon of palm oil. They also recovered a Tecno mobile phone and a sum of seventy-eight thousand five hundred Naira (N78,500) from the suspect.
“Consequently, one hundred and twenty-four (124) rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil, one Tecno mobile phone, and cash sum of seventy-eight thousand and five hundred Naira (N78,500) were recovered from the suspect as exhibits,” DSP Nansel added.
The police explained that Hauwa Sani had received the ammunition in Rafin Sanyi village, located in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. She was attempting to transport the ammunition back to Katsina State when she was caught.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect received a supply of the ammunition at Rafin Sanyi village of Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and concealed the items in a gallon of palm oil en route to Katsina State before nemesis caught up with her,” the statement explained.
The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered the transfer of the suspect and the recovered exhibits to the Force Intelligence Department at Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation. He also praised the officers involved in the arrest for their good work.
