The Nigeria Police Force, Niger State Command, has arrested a 40-year-old man, Jafar Mohammed, also known as Danlami, for allegedly attempting to sexually assault three young girls in Kontagora Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect, a resident of Sabon-Gari in Kontagora, was apprehended on February 11, 2026, at about 10:00 a.m. by officers from the Kontagora Area Command.

Investigations revealed that Mohammed reportedly lured the three victims, aged between six and seven, to an uncompleted building in the Dadin-Kowa area of Kontagora, under the pretense of giving them candy.

SP Abiodun stated, “During the alleged attempt, one of the girls reportedly raised an alarm, drawing the attention of neighbours who swiftly intervened and ensured he was arrested.”

The suspect was handed over to the police and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and possible prosecution.

In a separate development, the police recovered an abandoned firearm in Mokwa Local Government Area. The PPRO disclosed that on February 12, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., a resident discovered a rifle while clearing bushes near the Government Teachers College in Mokwa.

“Operatives attached to Mokwa Division were immediately deployed to the scene, where they recovered a rusty Submachine Gun (SMG) rifle suspected to have been abandoned by hoodlums,” SP Abiodun said.

The command added that the recovered firearm is currently undergoing ballistic analysis to ascertain its origin and potential links to criminal activities in the area.
