The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Isiaka Hassan, for allegedly killing a five-year-old boy, Abba Bashiru, in Lamurde Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the arrest in a statement shared on the command’s Facebook page on Sunday.

According to the police, the boy was reported missing on August 30, 2025, by his mother, Hadiza Bashiru, from Tingno community. She told the police that her son was last seen with Hassan.

“On the strength of that, the command’s operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Tingno, swiftly led an operation and arrested the said Isiaka Hassan, who during interrogation confessed to having conspired with one yet to be arrested to kill the boy and bury him in a shallow grave,” Nguroje said.

The police later recovered the child’s body from the shallow grave and took it to the hospital for an autopsy.

Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and track down the second suspect, who is still on the run.

“The Command reassures members of the public of its commitment to ensure justice is served and calls for continued cooperation in the fight against violent crime across the State,” the statement added.
