The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Dauda Sa’idu, for allegedly destroying graves and stealing iron rods to sell as scrap.

In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakili, on Sunday, he said, “On September 20, 2024, the Command arrested Dauda Sa’idu, who is resident in Yelwa, for trespassing, vandalism, and theft.”

Wakili explained, “The detainee unlawfully entered a Christian cemetery in the Yelwan Kagadama area of Bauchi, causing damage to several graves and removing iron rods during daylight hours.”

After being interrogated, Sa’idu confessed to his crimes. According to Wakili, “Dauda Sa’idu admitted to stealing multiple iron rods and selling them to scrap buyers in separate transactions, amounting to N9,500, N12,000, and N5,500, respectively.”

Sa’idu also revealed that he used the money from selling the rods to buy Indian hemp and food.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, has ordered that Sa’idu be prosecuted once investigations are complete. He also stressed the need for parental supervision. “Parents and guardians should be vigilant in monitoring their children and wards,” the Commissioner said.
