The police in Benue on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of an 18-year-old man, Terna Taga, who allegedly defiled and impregnated a 10-year-old girl, Masenengen Targba.
Taga was alleged to have raped the minor who at an internally displaced person [IDP] camp in Benue.
The victim was delivered of a baby girl via caesarean section.
DSP Catherine Anene, Benue Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said in Makurdi on Wednesday that Taga was arrested in North Bank on Tuesday evening.
She said the suspect is in custody for further investigations.
”The command will decide on the next line of action after full interrogation and investigation into the case,” Anene told NAN.
Thee news of the minor’s pregnancy broke on Aug. 4 when she was dumped in a General Hospital, Makurdi by an unknown person.
WuzupNaija had reported that Targba was dumped at a hospital in Benue state while experiencing labour pains. The little girl birthed her child after having to undergo Caesarean section due to the small size of her pelvis.
According to Chigozie Effe who shared the news on Facebook, the child was dumped at General Hospital Markurdi located at Northbank by an unknown person in the early hours of Sunday, August 4, 2019.
She was in so much pain as it was time to have her baby, but surgery was needed to be carried out and she could not afford it.
Upon interrogation, it was discovered that she is an orphan from Tiv in Benue state, but has been living in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp located in Benue State. It is in the camp that she was raped and impregnated.
