The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man accused of trying to flee his community on a motorcycle while carrying the body of his wife inside a sack.
The suspect, identified as Godonu Lowe from Omolende Village near Idogo, was stopped on Wednesday during a routine stop and search in the Ilaro area of Yewa South.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said officers acted on a tip-off that a man was attempting to escape with a corpse. When the sack tied to his motorcycle was opened, officers found the body of an adult woman.
Odutola said, “The content was discovered to be the corpse of an adult female, later identified as his wife. The body showed signs of violence with bleeding around the neck.”
She added that a blood-stained cutlass was also found at the scene, raising suspicion of murder.
The police spokesperson explained that proactive policing helped officers uncover the case. “The Ogun State Police Command has once again underscored the importance of routine stop-and-search operations,” she said.
The remains have been taken to the State Morgue in Ilaro for autopsy while the suspect is in custody.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo praised the resident who alerted the police.
He urged the public to continue sharing useful information that can help stop crime, saying such support remains vital for community safety.
