The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Stella Nwadigo, a teacher from Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu, who was seen repeatedly slapping a three-year-old pupil in a viral video.

The video, which sparked widespread outrage online, shows the teacher hitting the child during a lesson on writing numbers.

Nwadigo instructed the pupil to write the numbers 61 and 62 while striking him multiple times as he struggled to follow her instructions.

In the disturbing two-minute clip, the teacher could be heard saying, “It is like this. Write. Six. One. Sixty-one. Write,” punctuating her guidance with slaps. She continued, “Your two… Six. Two. Sixty-two. Write. Like this… That is six.”

The video led to public condemnation, with many Nigerians expressing anger and demanding justice for the child.

A concerned social media user @excelentspirit, commented, “@Princemoye1. @PoliceNG Can this be looked into please. This is beyond heart wrenching. Why??? I mean what could be the justification for her wickedness against 3 or 4 year old??? Biko… ejor… abeg this teacher and the school should be located and properly investigated. There maybe others doing the same in that school.”

Responding to the public outcry, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the teacher’s arrest.

He wrote on his X account, “She is currently in our custody for further necessary actions.”
