The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered N6.9 million after a lone accident in Garaku, Kokona Local Government Area.

Police said the crash, which happened around 9:00 a.m. on Monday near the Vehicle Inspection Office checkpoint, involved an Opel Vectra with registration number Plateau BLD 566 ST.

According to the Command’s spokesman, SP Ramhan Nansel, two men fled the vehicle after the accident, but a VIO officer quickly recovered a G3 rifle and cash before handing them to the police.

The car was later towed to the Garaku Police Division, where officers discovered one AK-47 rifle, one Type 06 rifle, one G3 rifle, three magazines, 57 rounds of live ammunition, and N6.9 million hidden inside.

Nansel said a joint operation by the police and the military led to the arrest of one Mohammed Tahir from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of a seven-man kidnap gang behind the abduction of a lawyer in Nyanya, Abuja, where ransom was collected,” Nansel stated.

He added that Tahir admitted he and an accomplice were heading to Jos to share the money before the accident occurred.

The Command confirmed that the suspect and all recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia, on the orders of Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jauro-Mohammed.

On behalf of the Commissioner, Nansel assured residents that the police will continue to work with other security agencies to flush out criminals.

He said, “We will not rest until every member of this gang is arrested. We also commend members of the public for their vigilance and urge them to keep supporting security agencies.”
