Police arrest immigration officer, three others with trailers of rustled cows in Katsina
Katsina State Police Command at the weekend arrested one Abubakar Shafiu who claimed to be an immigration officer, alongside three other civilians with trucks loaded with 164 cows suspected to be rustled and headed to Buni Yadi in Yobe state.
The Command’s Spokesman, Superintendent Gambo Isah while parading the four suspects, said they were arrested based on a credible investigation by the police and customs officers on duty.
According to him, the suspects and the loaded trailers were from Zurmi in Zamfara state and were headed to Buni Yadi town in Yobe state before they were intercepted in Katsina state.
He further noted that Zurmi has been a serious hideout for criminals especially bandits and cattle rustlers, assuring that investigation into the matter will be thorough and that anyone found wanting would face the wrath of the law.
While speaking to newsmen, one of the arrested suspects who also claimed to be an immigration officer, Inspector Abubakar Shafiu, said they were moving the cows away from their area because of the banditry attacks on their community, adding that before embarking on the trip, they obtained permission from the Zamfara Emirate council and Myyetti Allah Cattle Breeder Association, before embarking on the journey.
Inspector Shafiu further told newsmen that he was officially admitted to a one month leave by the immigration authorities but couldn’t present any document to proof his identify or justify all his claims.
