The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested two notorious gunrunners and an informant for kidnappers in separate operations, while also foiling a kidnapping attempt and rescuing two victims in the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, announced on Monday that the gunrunners, Abulaziz Habibu and Nuhu Thomas, were intercepted by officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on August 14, 2024, at Madaci Village in Zaria.
The suspects were found with a fabricated AK-47 rifle and later confessed to supplying weapons to bandits operating in the Zaria area. “The suspects confessed to being involved in the illicit trade of arms, supplying weapons to notorious bandits operating in the Zaria area,” Hassan stated.
In another operation, the police arrested Abubakar Yahuza, an informant for kidnappers, at Gidan Abeh Village in Kagarko Local Government Area. Hassan explained that during interrogation, Yahuza admitted to running errands and serving as an informant for kidnappers who hide in the Gidan Dogo Forest.
On August 18, 2024, police officers responded to gunfire at Kuriga Village, successfully foiling a kidnapping attempt. The officers rescued two farmers who had been attacked by bandits. “A brief exchange of gunfire ensued, forcing the bandits to flee and abandon their captives,” Hassan added.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Audu Dabigi, praised the officers for their bravery in apprehending the suspects and urged the public to continue supporting the police by providing credible information.
“I commend the officers for their exemplary work in apprehending the suspects and urge the public to continue supporting the police by providing credible information that would help in the ongoing fight against crime,” Dabigi said.
