Operatives of the IGP-Special Investigation Unit have arrested four suspects accused of forging government documents, job racketeering, impersonation, and fraud.

The suspects, identified as Khuzaifa Tafida, Zakari Abdullahi, Abdullahi Baba, and Adeyemo Morufu, were paraded in Abuja on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi. Their arrest followed a report from the office of the Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria.

Adejobi said, “Following a report received from the office of the Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and subsequent extensive intelligence gathering, operatives of the IGP-Special Investigation Unit have apprehended four suspects alleged of criminal conspiracy, forgery of official documents, job racketeering, impersonation, and obtaining money under false pretence.”

The suspects are accused of forging classified documents from government agencies to deceive victims and collect money under the pretense of offering them jobs, including positions at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil.

Adejobi added, “Upon receipt of these documents with suspicion, followed by a petition from the office of the Special Assistant to the President, a discreet investigation was conducted, leading to the arrests. The suspects confessed to their roles in the crime and admitted to forging documents to defraud victims.”

Recovered items include forged documents, stamps, and N1.7 million in cash.

Adejobi warned the public, “With this new trend, members of the public are advised to be wary of such fraudulent elements and avoid dealing with persons and individuals offering assistance outside of due process.”

The police assured that investigations are ongoing to dismantle similar syndicates and protect citizens from such scams.
