The Katsina State Police Command has arrested four men suspected of smuggling drugs from Nigeria to Maradi in Niger Republic.
According to police, the suspects were caught on May 16, 2025, at around 2:00pm at Kofar Guga Garage in Katsina metropolis. They were reportedly trying to move a large quantity of drugs across the border.
The suspects have been identified as 23-year-old Aliyu Idris and 20-year-old Abubakar Sa’idu, both from Kofar Kwaya, as well as 25-year-old Abubakar Suleiman and 35-year-old Tajuddeen Umar from Sabuwar Unguwa in Katsina.
In a statement released on Sunday, police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq said, “The arrest was based on credible intelligence. Upon searching them, our officers found 5,000 Exol tablets and 430 Tramadol tablets.”
Sadiq added that during questioning, the suspects confessed to the crime. They told police they got the drugs from a supplier named Abba, who lives in Abuja. The supplier is still on the run.
Efforts are now ongoing to arrest Abba and bring him to justice.
The state Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, praised his officers for the successful arrest. He also assured residents that the command will continue to fight drug trafficking and other crimes.
“We are committed to keeping Katsina safe,” Shehu said. “We ask the public to help us by reporting any suspicious activity.”
The police have urged Nigerians to support their efforts by giving useful information that can help stop crimes in the state.
