The Cross River Police Command has apprehended a suspect involved in the abduction of a former Independent National Electoral Commission employee on Sunday.

The suspect was discovered hiding in the ceiling of his girlfriend’s residence in Calabar at the time of his arrest.

This arrest comes after the police earlier detained three suspects in connection with the abduction of an INEC official on Saturday, but one of the culprits managed to flee.

According to Police spokesperson SP Irene Ugbo, the suspect was unaware that officers from the Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Squad were closing in on him until he was apprehended around 5 a.m.

He has since confessed to being the mastermind behind the kidnapping of Mrs. Caroline Bassey.

“He identified Bassey’s tenant as the person who contracted him and his gang to kidnap the victim,” Ugbo stated.
