Police arrest five for receiving stolen property in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested five individuals for their involvement in criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

This was announced on Tuesday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed.

Among those arrested is a woman accused of receiving stolen tricycles from Kano State and selling them in Bauchi State. Wakil provided details of the suspects, saying, “Maryam Ibrahim alias Ummi, aged 30 years; Adamu Sale alias Brother, aged 30 years; Umar Ibrahim alias Baba Luti, aged 31 years; Nasiru Usman, aged 29 years; and Nasiru Musa Umar alias Nass, aged 27 years.”

According to Wakil, the preliminary investigations showed that Maryam Ibrahim had sold about seven stolen tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep, within Bauchi. He stated, “This successful operation was made possible through credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities and the hard work of the State Intelligence Department of the Bauchi State Police Command.”

Wakil highlighted the severity of the crime, noting that “engaging in the receiving of stolen property is a serious offense with severe consequences, as per Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria.” He explained that anyone found guilty of this offense could face imprisonment for up to fourteen years.

The police recovered seven tricycles during the operation. Wakil appreciated the community’s support, saying, “The support and cooperation of the community in providing valuable information led to the apprehension of the said suspects.”

The Bauchi State Police Command continues to encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help combat crime in the area.
