Bauchi police command has arrested a 30-year-old resident of Abbo in Giade local government, Mamuda Abubakar for allegedly chaining his 6-year-old son, Adamu Mamuda, inside a room at their home.

Abubakar reportedly did this to prevent his son from visiting his maternal grandfather’s house.

Bauchi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said in a statement on Monday that the arrest was part of their efforts to prevent child and women abuse.

“The police received the report on child abuse on July 7, 2024, after which a team of detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene and rescued the victim,” SP Wakil said.

The investigation revealed that Abubakar and the boy’s mother separated five years ago, and the mother has since remarried and no longer lives with her father.

According to the statement, the suspect claimed that his son should not visit the grandfather’s house because he believed the children there lacked morality.

“When the son insisted on going to his grandfather’s house, the suspect became furious and ultimately chained the minor,” the statement explained.

Abubakar is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at the state headquarters in Bauchi.

The Bauchi State Police Command assured the public of its commitment to protecting all citizens, especially vulnerable children. The public is urged to report any incidents of abuse or maltreatment to the nearest police station.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, encouraged the public to support the police with useful information to help identify other culprits.
