The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Chinecherem Ugwuagu, for allegedly robbing a victim and disguising in a National Youth Service Corps uniform to evade arrest.

Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe said in a statement on Monday that the suspect was intercepted on October 11 by operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway while escaping on a stolen Carter motorcycle.

Recovered from him were a gun-like object made from a lotion container, an ATM card, clothes, and other stolen items.

According to the police, investigations showed that Ugwuagu had earlier that morning broken into a victim’s house at 9th Mile in Udi Local Government Area, where he robbed the person using the fake weapon.

“The suspect dressed in the NYSC uniform to avoid detection but was arrested by eagle-eyed operatives,” Ndukwe said.

He added that the suspect would be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the officers for their quick response and professionalism, saying the Command would continue to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.

“We remain committed to fighting crime and protecting residents. We urge members of the public to stay law-abiding and share credible information with the police,” Giwa stated.
