Katsina State Police Command has arrested eight suspects for crimes including kidnapping, armed robbery, criminal conspiracy, and homicide.
The suspects were paraded at the Command Headquarters in Katsina on Wednesday.
Police spokesman Abubakar Sadiq said the suspects confessed to their involvement during investigations. Among them is 16-year-old Nuhu Haruna from Fenza village in Dutsinma Local Government Area, who was arrested for allegedly causing the death of his 40-year-old stepmother, Rabi Haruna, after hitting her with a stick. “The suspect confessed to the offence during the investigation,” Sadiq said.
Another suspect, Abubakar Nasiru, also known as Haro, was re-arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping. Nasiru was previously convicted of rape and, according to the police, received two million naira as his share of a ransom paid in a 2023 kidnapping incident where three victims were abducted. “During the investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence,” Sadiq confirmed, adding that other suspects in the case are still at large.
The police also arrested Ibrahim Isah of Yana village in Charanchi LGA. Isah allegedly demanded one million naira from the father of a missing person as ransom. The Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit traced and arrested him following an investigation. Sadiq noted, “The suspect confessed to the offence.”
In another case, 25-year-old Nasiru Sanusi from Gidan Daudu village in Kankara LGA was arrested for kidnapping and murder.
Sanusi and three accomplices, who remain at large, allegedly kidnapped and later killed his uncle, a local leader, after receiving eight million naira and six bags of fertilizer as ransom.
Sanusi reportedly fled to Lagos, Taraba, and Gombe states but was ultimately arrested in Gombe. He confessed to the crime, and police are intensifying efforts to apprehend his accomplices.
