Bauchi State Police have arrested a 23-year-old man, Ibrahim Liman, in connection with the kidnapping and murder of an 8-year-old boy, Kamal Aliyu.
The incident occurred in Rinjin-Gani, a community in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
According to the spokesperson for Bauchi Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, the boy was reported missing on August 4, 2024. “Kamal Aliyu was kidnapped by unknown individuals in Runjin Gani village,” Wakil said in a statement.
The police responded quickly with a search and rescue operation led by the Division Police Officer of Toro Police Divisional headquarters. During questioning, Ibrahim Liman confessed to working with another person, whose identity remains unknown, to abduct Aliyu. Liman admitted that they tricked the boy into coming with them by pretending to deliver a message to his father.
Wakil further explained, “The suspect admitted to taking the young boy into a nearby bush, where they killed him and buried his body in a shallow grave.”
Liman also revealed that they had demanded a ransom of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000) from the victim’s father. Although the father paid the ransom and took it to the specified location, the suspects were unable to collect it due to the presence of security operatives in the area.
