A 64-years-old man, who deals in locally made firearms in Gombe State, has been arrested for selling weapons to suspected criminals.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Mary Malum, in a statement on Wednesday, said Abubakar Umar was arrested based on credible intelligence.
The PPRO said Umar was nabbed after the Gombe State Police Command arrested a 19-year-old, one Usman Ali of Tudun Wada quarters of the metropolis, for being in possession of a locally-made pistol.
She said,
“Upon interrogation, the suspect claimed that he bought the said gun from 64 years old Abubakar Umar of Nasarawo quarters, Gombe. He was traced to his workshop where Dane-gun, locally-made pistols and other fabricated items were recovered from him.”
Malum further revealed that the suspect had been in the business of selling illegal weapons to men of the underworld for more than five years.
She stressed the call by the Commissioner of Police, Bello Makwashi, for more collaborative efforts in fighting crimes in the state adding that the command is ever committed and dedicated to discharging its constitutional duties in the state.
