Police arrest 54-year-old female gunrunner in Yobe

Police in Yobe State have arrested a 54-year-old woman, Hamsatu Modu, on suspicion of trafficking ammunition.

Hamsatu, who is from Morami Village in Jakana, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, was caught transporting ammunition from Buniyadi to Damaturu, Yobe State.

According to the Yobe State Police Command’s spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, the arrest took place on Sunday, October 20, 2024. He said, “The Command has successfully apprehended Hamsatu Modu for trafficking ammunition. She was arrested around 6:30 pm after we received credible intelligence.”

Abdulkarim explained that the police intercepted a Golf 3 saloon car and, during a search, found 350 rounds of live 7.62×39 mm ammunition hidden in the suspect’s luggage.

“The ammunition was discovered after a thorough search of the suspect’s belongings,” he added.

Hamsatu is currently being questioned by the police as investigators work to uncover more details about the criminal network and the motives behind the trafficking.

The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Garba Ahmed, reassured the public of the police’s commitment to fighting crime.

He urged community members to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activities or people to the nearest police station.
