The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 26 individuals in connection with counterfeit currency operations and the sale of adulterated diesel in the Eti-Osa and Lekki areas.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday.
She explained that the arrests were made on Thursday afternoon during a joint operation involving police officers and officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline unit.
According to her, the raid led to the recovery of N951,300 in counterfeit notes found at the suspects’ premises.
The spokesperson added that investigations showed that four of the suspects were directly engaged in the production and distribution of adulterated diesel and engine oil, commonly referred to locally as “rice and beans.”
“The illicit product was sold to unsuspecting motorists across the area. Two other suspects were identified as suppliers of the adulterated petroleum products,” she said.
Ms Adebisi noted that the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had issued a stern warning to individuals involved in criminal activities to desist immediately.
“CP Jimoh cautioned that anyone involved in acts that threaten public peace or economic stability will face the full weight of the law,” she said.
She reassured Lagos residents that the state remains secure, emphasising that the police command maintains firm control over the security situation and remains committed to the safety and well-being of all residents.
She also encouraged members of the public to share credible and timely information that could support police efforts in tackling crime.
“Public cooperation remains essential to sustaining the peace and security for which Lagos state is known,” she said.
