The Yobe State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old suspect in connection with alleged theft and burglary within the Damaturu area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Damaturu on Thursday.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Shetima Adamu, was apprehended following several complaints by shop owners in the Bayan-Tash and Nayi-Nawa areas of Damaturu metropolis over repeated cases of burglary and theft involving property valued at about N530,000.00.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a hardened burglar. He voluntarily confessed to the crime and led police operatives to the arrest of five accomplices who specialise in buying and selling stolen property,” the statement said.
In a related development, the police spokesperson revealed that, after sustained intelligence-led investigations and collaboration, a 38-year-old suspect, Abdulrazaq Abdul’Azeez, from Kumbotso, Kano State, was intercepted at a police checkpoint in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State.
The suspect was later arrested in connection with a stolen Keke Napep in Potiskum.
“The suspect has since been brought back to Yobe State, where he will face further investigation and subsequent prosecution. The recovered tricycle is in police custody as exhibit,” the command said.
