The arrests were confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday in Dutse by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam.

Adam said the suspects were apprehended during intelligence-led operations carried out in known crime-prone areas across the state.

“During the operation, a total number of 17 major drugs peddling suspects were arrested across Dutse, Guri, Gumel, Sara, Shuwarin, Sundimina, Kazaure, Malam-Madori, Ringim, Birnin Kudu, Kafin Hausa, and Taura local government areas,” he said.

According to the police spokesman, the operation led to the recovery of large quantities of hard drugs meant for distribution, with one of the key suspects identified as Mutari Shu’aibu, a 20-year-old resident of Dutse Local Government Area.

“In our continued effort to rid Jigawa State of drugs and criminal activities, the command arrested 17 suspects in various raids and recovered 4,658 wraps of hard drugs,” Adam stated.

He added that all the exhibits recovered during the raids had been properly documented and would be presented in court as evidence.

“Following a discreet investigation, all the arrested suspects have been arraigned in court to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

The police also disclosed that earlier, on December 17, the command arrested seven other suspects in connection with armed robbery and theft cases across the state, recovering five motorcycles and other stolen items.

Quoting the Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, Adam said the command would not relent in its fight against drug trafficking and other crimes.

“The command will not relent in its fight against drug trafficking and other criminal activities,” the commissioner was quoted as saying.

The police assured residents that similar operations would continue across Jigawa State, stressing that the goal was to protect public safety and safeguard the future of young people.

“We are fully committed to ensuring a safe, secure, and drug-free society for the good people of Jigawa,” Adam said.

He also urged members of the public to support the police by providing credible information on suspicious activities in their communities, noting that the fight against drug abuse requires collective effort.
