Police arraign ‘one chance’ robbers arrested by LASTMA
The Lagos State Police Command has taken legal action against two individuals involved in ‘one chance’ armed robbery activities.
Identified as Jamiu Olalekan and Oni Adeola, the suspects were arraigned following the conclusion of investigations, as announced by the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundenyin.
“Following conclusion of investigations, the suspects, Jamiu Olalekan aged 31 and Oni Adeola aged 27, have been arraigned while their operational vehicle remains impounded,” he wrote on X on Saturday.
The arrest of Olalekan and Adeola was made by operatives of the Lagos State Transport Management Agency.
The Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended along with their operational vehicle, a ‘T4’ commercial bus with the registration number APP 406 YE, at the U-turn area of Abule-Egba.
According to Taofiq, the suspects were engaged by LASTMA personnel, and during the confrontation, one of them managed to escape with a P.O.S machine before the arrival of the police.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo was notorious for ‘one-chance’ armed robberies, creating fear in the Abule-Egba area and its surroundings.
Further details from the investigation indicated that the suspects had been pursued by members of the public after they pushed a man down from their vehicle following a robbery.
Attempting to evade capture, they drove recklessly before being apprehended by LASTMA officials managing traffic around the Abule-Egba axis.
The two suspects were subsequently handed over to the police from the Ile-Epo Police Division for further investigation.
