Police apprehend ‘One-Chance’ gang in Jos
The Plateau State Police Command has successfully apprehended three individuals operating as part of a ‘one-chance’ gang in the city of Jos.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, shared details of the arrest with journalists in Jos, the state capital, on Thursday.
According to Alabo, the Eagle Eye Patrol Unit (EEPU) acted swiftly based on a new directive from CP Hassan Steve Yabanet, which mandates officers to respond to criminal emergencies and distress calls within ten minutes.
He explained, “On 20th February 2024, at about 18:07 hours, the Eagle Eye Patrol Unit received information that some suspected One-Chance members were operating along Dogon Karfe, Jos. In an attempt to dispossess one Abubakar Mohammed of his phone and valuables, the syndicate was overpowered by an angry mob.”
Upon receiving the tip-off, the EEPU promptly moved to the scene, rescuing and arresting the suspects from the enraged mob. The arrested individuals were identified as Yazid Ukasha (23 years old), Adamu Yahaya Garba (22 years old), both of Nasarawa Gwong and Layin Dan Maraya, Bauchi Road, respectively, and 31-year-old Isaac Ogbu.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are members of a One-Chance syndicate who have been dispossessing unsuspecting passengers of their valuables within the Jos metropolis,” Alabo stated.
He further noted that exhibits recovered from the suspects included a tricycle with PT No. PTA-861 and Reg No. WAS-371 WL.
Efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the syndicate, and the Commissioner of Police, Yabanet, assured Plateau residents of the commitment of his Command to eradicating criminal elements in the state.
He urged citizens to carry on with their lawful activities without fear, emphasizing the police force’s dedication to ensuring their safety.
