Adamawa police apprehend man for raping neighbor’s wife

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, identified as Ja’afar Adamu, for allegedly raping his 21-year-old neighbour’s wife at Anguwan Diocese Kala’a in the Hong Local Government Area.

The Police Command Public Relations Officer, lSP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Yola on Tuesday.

Nguroje said that the suspect was arrested on September 15.

According to the statement, the suspect allegedly entered the victim’s house around noon and forcefully had an undue carnal knowledge of her while her husband was away on the farm.

The suspect reportedly wore a black face mask and carried a knife, which he used to threaten the victim. However, his mask fell off during the act, and the victim recognized him.

The suspect was said to have, on the same date, around Noon, haven noticed the absence of the victim’s husband on the farm, entered into the house and thereafter forcefully had an undue carnal knowledge of her.

“Investigation, so far reveals that the suspect was wearing a black face mask and also carried a knife, which he used in threatening the victim to comply with his demands.

“Unfortunately for him, upon committing the act, his mask fell off, had been recognized by the victim, he fled away through the window,”  the statement read

The incident was reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Kala’a by the victim’s husband.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Afolabi Babatola, has condemned the incident and directed the officer in charge of the Family Support Unit to take over the investigation and ensure diligent prosecution of the perpetrator.

Babatola also called on members of the public to key into the Command’s efforts in fighting all forms of Gender-Based Violence.
